The city
Why a car comes up in Thunder Bay.
Thunder Bay is a Lake Superior city with a very long Trans-Canada on either side. People rent because the next large city is hours away in a way southern Ontario is not.
Winnipeg is a long drive west. Southern Ontario is a long drive east. Neither is a day trip to treat casually. Read mileage as a planning idea.
Season
The year is not one trip.
Summer is the season people drive the lake. Winter is the season to shorten ambitions and to ask about tires before you leave the lot.
Vehicles
What people usually need here.
SUV or a straightforward car you trust. A luxury evening car is a poor default for a highway with long gaps in services.
Driving
The roads that decide the vehicle.
Hills, lake weather, and highways with real gaps in services are the driving. Wildlife at dusk is a practical caution. A compact car may be fine in the city and a lonely choice if the highway is the week.
Winter arrives early and stays. Choose with that in mind.

Beyond
Nearby, without pretending it is the same city.
Winnipeg is the prairie city to the west, far enough to be a different trip.
Questions
Before you decide
Is Thunder Bay near Toronto?
Only on a national map. The drive is long.
How should I plan the highway?
Check a current road report the morning you leave, and do not treat Winnipeg or southern Ontario as a casual day trip.
What should I ask the company?
Winter tires, fuel, mileage, and what happens if weather delays the return.

Note the place and the dates.
The planner records a pickup, a return, and an optional vehicle class. Ebomim does not reserve a car or publish a rate.
