The city
Why a car comes up in Vancouver.
Car rental in Vancouver splits into two trips that share a skyline. Inside the downtown peninsula, transit and your feet do more than a car will. The moment the plan includes a bridge, a suburb, a ferry terminal, or the highway north, the car becomes the tool.
The airport on Sea Island is not downtown and has its own page at Vancouver airport. Surrey, Richmond, and the North Shore are not the peninsula. Surrey has its own guide because the south side of the Fraser is a different drive.
Rain is the ordinary weather. It is not a crisis, and it does reward lights, wipers, and a realistic view of night driving on a wet mountain road.
Season
The year is not one trip.
Winter in the city is rain and occasional snow that the region treats as an event. The mountains above the city are a different season from the streets. Summer is tourists, ferries, and a long evening. Spring and fall are often the best driving and the least theatrical.
If you are going to Vancouver Island, the car decision includes a ferry and may include a different place to return the vehicle. That is a one-way question. See Victoria and Nanaimo rather than stretching this page across the water.
Vehicles
What people usually need here.
A luxury car is a more common request here than on the Prairies. Use luxury car rental when the cabin matters, and do not take a low car up a snowy road for the photograph. Electric rental fits a mild urban week better here than on the Prairies, still only with a charger you can actually use.
If you want to spend less, read cheap car rental for the questions to ask, including when the trip starts at the airport. Compare the offers with the company.
Driving
The roads that decide the vehicle.
Bridges set the schedule. The Lions Gate, the Ironworkers, and the crossings to Richmond and the airport all have moods. A meeting time that ignores them is a meeting you will apologise for.
The Sea-to-Sky Highway toward Squamish and Whistler is the drive that convinces people to rent. It is also the drive that should not be started at dusk in the first hour after a long flight. An SUV is the calmer choice if that road is the point. A compact car is the calmer choice if you will spend the week in the West End and Yaletown looking for parking.

Beyond
Nearby, without pretending it is the same city.
Read Surrey for the south-of-Fraser week, Abbotsford for the Fraser Valley, and Abbotsford airport if that field is the arrival instead of YVR.
Questions
Before you decide
Should I rent a car for downtown only?
Often no. Rent when the bridges and highways are part of the day.
Is Whistler on this page?
Only as a drive you might add. It is not a separate Ebomim desk.
Where do I read about YVR?
On the Vancouver airport page.
Is a luxury car sensible in the rain?
The rain does not forbid it. The mountain weather might.
Next
Note the place and the dates.
The planner records a pickup, a return, and an optional vehicle class. Ebomim does not reserve a car or publish a rate.
